Portraiture or portrait photography is the art of capturing the essence of a person and reproducing a print on various types of media.  Portrait photography is about presenting the subject with a sense of their personality and style to the viewer.  Portraiture has been  around for thousands of years, starting with royalty and nobility having their portraits made and hung next to other family members to document their heritage and lineage.

Today almost everyone has had their portrait taken by a photographer at some point; either by a school photographer or retail photographer at the mall.  Having you portrait taken on a regular annual basis is a great way to look back at your life and celebrate all the changes in your life.    Families also have group portraits taken, especially when their is a new baby or marriage; capturing memories that will last a lifetime and can be shared for generations to come.

Time is something that we can get back - once a moment has passed it is gone for forever.  You can't go back a take pictures of your children when they were little, you can only do that in the moment!  Portraiture and other types of photography are important because photographs are like our return ticket to a place and time that would otherwise be forgotten.
